What We Believe

"You are saved by God’s grace because of your faith. This salvation is God’s gift. It’s not something you possessed. It’s not something you did that you can be proud of. Instead, we are God’s accomplishment, created in Christ Jesus to do good things. God planned for these good things to be the way that we live our lives." Ephesians 2:8-10

United Methodists believe in the full humanity and divinity of Christ

  • Jesus Christ is the Son of God, the Word of the Father, fully human and fully divine
  • The Son of God became fully human in the womb of the Virgin Mary
  • Jesus Christ suffered, died, was buried and was raised from the dead to free us from the power of sin

United Methodists belief about Scripture

The UMC believes in the authority and primacy of the Scripture.
  • The Holy Bible is the primary source for Christian living and the standard for Christian doctrine. The Bible as found in the Old and New Testaments is the foundation and for what we believe and practice as United Methodists. It reveals the Word of God and “superior to all human authority.” (John Wesley)
  • Tradition, reason and experience function as lenses for our interpretation of the Bible. The Wesleyan Quadrilateral helps us grasp God’s Word with greater clarity andunderstanding.

United Methodist Beleif about Belonging & Inclusion

  • The UMC continues to believe that “ALL people are of sacred worth.”
  • The postponed 2020 General Conference, which convened in 2024, voted to remove the bans on gay clergy and same-sex marriages. The delegates also passed a measure that explicitly allows clergy to choose which weddings they perform or don’t perform.
  • We believe in an open table, which means all are invited to participate in holy communion. All are welcome to come forward to receive the elements of bread and juice for celebrating holy communion.
